Book Description

Stop/Start is the result of a collaborative project between Tamar MacLellan and Philippa Wood undertaken during the second national lockdown of November 2020.

 

The new rules and restrictions pertaining to the one-month lockdown were analysed then divided into five actions that had to be stopped and five rules that had to be adhered to. This list was placed into a ‘hat’ and each week an item drawn out. Working independently, individual responses were produced on the inside of a C6 envelope and mailed to one another – employing a pre-arranged system, either an addition or deletion was made to the ‘homework’ received.

The twenty envelopes were folded to form individual one-sheet books, with an additional sewn section inserted to depict the title of each piece. The nature of the envelope and its journey through the postal system, plus the varied media used, has resulted in some irregularities and inconsistencies across the edition.
