Book Description

The UWE World Book Night 2023 theme ‘I Remember’ offered an opportunity to develop a new collective body of work from which to extract both a WBN submission and a limited-edition book. Working with memories, we individually developed a collage of recollections to represent each of our four grandparents. Drawing upon objects belonging to, or associated with each person, memories, and text matter, we worked within a designated 8” x 8” format.

 

On completion, the pages were swapped, and connections made between the set of eight people. Pairings were found, and individual recollections were added to, enabling memories to merge and overlap before cutting the pages in half to offer the reader small glimpses of memories and biographical fragments from times past. The book’s muted colour palette offers a nod to the fading nature of recollections.
