Book Description

Simple Signs (The Words) brings language back to its point of first contact with the world.

Drawn from fragments of Ludwig Wittgenstein’s Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus, Daniele Pantano distils philosophy into sixty-six haiku – precise, enigmatic, and quietly unsettling. Each poem is paired with Jantze Holmes’ linocut images: abstracted landscapes of roads, grids, flows, and crossings that echo the structures of thought itself.

Together, word and image form a dialogue between saying and showing, logic and intuition, silence and sense.

Neither commentary nor illustration, Simple Signs is an artist’s book that invites readers to move freely through its pages, assembling meaning as one might assemble a map – by following patterns, interruptions, and chance alignments. It is a book to read slowly, to open anywhere, and to return to, where philosophy becomes poetry, and poetry becomes a way of seeing.
