Book Description

ГИМН

HYMN

HYMNUS

Hymn is taken from Wassily Kandinsky’s book of poetry – Klänge (Sounds) – originally written in Russian, but translated into German for its 1913 publication,  which is widely considered to be the first true Artists’ Book. The planned Russian edition was never produced.

Inspired by the 1983 edition (published by Yale University Press), the illustrations, by Jantze Holmes, are cut paper monoprints, scanned and printed, then glue-bound into lay-flat books.

The texts were translated from the German by Ken Cockburn, and the typography is by Barrie Tullett.

Prints of individual pages are available
