In the spring semester of 2024, twenty-nine writers joined me for “English in a Flash,” the course of “Creative Short-Form Writing in English” at the University of Copenhagen. Experimenting with brevity, we turned also to Barrie Tullett’s 4-second (fairy) stories. Ours are not only fairy tales, though. They play with other genres, cognitive scenarios, imaginaries. Their intertextuality relies on cultures and languages beyond English: Danish, French, Japanese, Swedish, Norwegian, Dutch, Colombian Spanish, Polish. Learning of our flash writing games, Barrie zoomed into the workshop to talk about his project and its designs. Generously, he invited us to collaborate on the mini-anthology, which you, Reader, are holding now in your hands.
